Since childhood I have always been intrigued and fascinated with the moving drawing. It was, and still is a complete mystery and wonder to me. As a young art student I was voracious in my desire to get my hands on anything about animation. Everything I could find seemed to only help me technically, but I couldn’t find anything out there to help me put the life in my work that I so craved.
And then I found it. One of my animation instructors showed me a scene he was working on. He grabbed this stack of drawings and flipped them for me…I was transcended. During class all I could think about was getting my hands on that scene. After class, I asked my instructor if I could possibly make a copy of it. I immediately went home, punched peg registration holes in them, put them on my light table and started rolling them. This was a pivotal moment in my education and understanding of animation. I would have given anything to get my hands on dozens of these “flip scenes.”
As a professional animator (with 25 years experience working for all the major studios), and an animation teacher “1 On 1 Animation”, my students and colleagues have encouraged me to make these scenes available.
